Questions Abound Heading into Dallas Mavericks’ Offseason

The Dallas Mavericks might have seemed to have a chance heading into game six of their first-round series against the San Antonio Spurs.

Any hopes that developed during the Mavs' strong performance in game five were swiftly crushed during a first quarter that saw Dallas score a measly eight points.

That abysmal showing in the first quarter in San Antonio was a prime example of the kind of disappointment that has been rampant during a stretch in which the Mavericks have lost in the first round of the playoffs three of the last four years.

For those interested in the team's improvement, there are many possible places to start.

Questions surrounding Rick Carlisle's decision making abounded after the Mavericks failed to secure a game seven in Dallas. Fans, writers and sports talk radio pundits alike have questioned player personnel decisions, such as benching players like Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, Shawn Marion and Rodrigue Beaubois in situations where they could have provided much-need spark.
