Pivot Points: Can the Re-Vamped Mavericks Roster Stand Up To the Lakers’ Girth?

The Dallas Mavericks made the deal which brought Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, and Deshawn Stevenson into the fold in order to deal with the top teams in the Western Conference.

Tonight Dallas gets to see how much of a difference those new players will make when they are matched up with the Los Angeles Lakers, the best team the Western Conference has to offer.

As far as measuring sticks go, there is none greater than the defending champions of 2009, and the current top team in the conference. Tonight should provide an indication of how far the Mavericks have to go.

They have lost two of their previous three meetings with the Lakers, and need this game to tie the season series in case records play a factor when determining seeding for the playoffs.

Butler was the player Dallas most coveted but Haywood should be the prize since he is a legitimate seven footer, and his size represents an element the Mavericks will desperately need against the Lakers' front court.
