Pesky Ping Pong Balls: New Jersey Nets, Jay-Z, Likely Missing Out on LeBron, Too

What a kick to the gut.

When the New Jersey Nets came up short in winning the NBA Draft Lottery Tuesday night, they may have lost out on much more than Kentucky point guard John Wall, who many analysts think will be the No. 1 overall pick of the draft.

The Nets may have also lost out on the ability to sign LeBron James. Nets part owner Jay-Z is surely adding another problem to the 99 he already told us about.

While New Jersey had a 21.9 percent chance of getting the draft’s top pick, they also had a 78.1 percent chance of not getting the top pick. It was interesting to me that so many analysts and pundits talked as if John Wall was already picking out new red and blue kicks and checking out apartment listings in the Garden State.

So I’m really not at all that shocked that this basically sealed the deal that King James will not be headed to the Nets. I have been convinced for some time that he will be making Cleveland his permanent kingdom, thus leaving teams like the Bulls and Knicks out in the cold.

It’s nice to have a little more clarity into sensing where LeBron is going, though. The lottery help ...
