Pat Riley vs. Phil Jackson: Who’s the Best Coach of the Modern Era?

When determining who the best NBA coach of the modern era is, two names immediately come to mind. The first is current Lakers' coach Phil Jackson. Ever since Jackson brought his Zen philosophy to the game of basketball, he has been piling up Larry O' Brien trophies; Jackson led the Bulls to six championships and Los Angeles to five. The other name that stands out from the pack is Pat Riley. Riley, with his sleek style, brought a never-before-seen flair to the sidelines. He won four rings with the Lakers, led the Knicks to the brink of a title and picked up another championship while coaching the Heat in 2006. Pitting these two coaches against each other is a difficult task. Various measuring sticks (e.g. motivational abilities, in-game strategies) must be looked at to come to properly conclude who is the better of these two great coaches.Begin Slideshow
