Orlando Magic To Offer Dwight Howard a Contract Extention After 2010-2011 Season

On Tuesday, Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel reported that the Orlando Magic are planning to re-sign their sixth-year center, Dwight Howard after the upcoming 2010-2011 season to ensure his presence on the team's roster before he can depart from the team in the summer of 2012 as an unrestricted free agent.

Magic General Manager, Otis Smith, expressed the organization's desire to re-sign Howard before he can explore his options as an unrestricted free agent.

It is, as Smith said, "in the best interest of the franchise" to keep their 24-year-old center.

Howard was drafted into the NBA in the 2004-2005 season and since has been a force to be reckoned with in the league.

Fresh out of high school, in 2004, Howard proved as a rookie, to be a valuable asset to the team, averaging a double-double (12.0 points per game, and 10.0 rebounds per game), helping the Magic win 36 games after they had only managed to win 20 games a season prior to his arrival.
