Noah Vonleh is a major part of what could be a bright future for the Charlotte Hornets, but that future was temporarily put on hold Tuesday. Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports filled fans in on the details:

The Hornets' official website reported that the surgery was performed in Charlotte by Dr. B. Todd Henneford and confirmed that Vonleh will miss six to eight weeks.

Vonleh was the No. 9 pick in the 2014 NBA draft because of his efforts at Indiana. He led the Big Ten in rebounding at nine a night and won the conference’s Freshman of the Year award. He also proved he can score on the low block by posting 11.3 points a game in a league that is traditionally loaded with strong interior players.

As for Charlotte, it signed Lance Stephenson this offseason and already has Al Jefferson down low. The hope is that Vonleh can take advantage of the openings playing next to those two creates and help guide the Hornets on a run in an Eastern Conference that is wide open behind the Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls.

First, he will have to get healthy.
