New York Knicks Win Season Opener (Believe It or Not)

One win at the start of an 82-game schedule. Just one win, over a lottery-bound team.

But anyone who has followed the Knicks even a little bit the past decade can understand our excitement.

For the first time since Nov. 22, 2008, your New York Knicks are over .500. And when the tale of the 2010-2011 NBA season comes to a close, the record will forever show that Amar’e Stoudemire‘s NEW New York Knicks started off better than LeBron James’ Heat. Technically.

If you happened to miss this one (apparently there was a baseball game on) and just looked at the box score, you’d assume Amar’e had a very David Lee-like performance. With 19 points and 10 rebounds, Stoudemire’s first double-double with the Knicks on paper doesn’t look any more impressive than the typical performance New Yorkers would see from former Knick David Lee.

But it was when Amare’ got those stats that was worth noticing. With the game still in question Stoudemire scored seven straight, helping your Knicks pull away by eight with under three minutes to play. It was a lead the Raptors would never ...
