The Sixers have traded guard Willie Green and forward/center Jason Smith to the New Orleans Hornets for forwards Darius Songaila and Craig Brackins. Green, Smith, and Songaila all have expiring contracts, so the deal hinges on Craig Brackins, who was the 21st pick in this year's draft.
The scouting reports on Brackins indicate he is an offensively-focused player, with a good jump shot and not much defense. In other words, he is Jason Smith, but younger and with more potential.
The more important part of this deal is the fact that the Sixers let Willie Green go. This to me is an indication that Turner is NBA ready, and the team has the utmost confidence in him. If the team was concerned about Turner, then they would have kept Green around as an insurance policy, perhaps to start the season as the No. 1 shooting guard.
With Green gone, the only people who could take Evan Turner's spot are Jason Kapono, Lou Williams, and Jodie Meeks.
