NBA Trade Rumors: Golden State Warriors Moving Monta Ellis?

It's hard to find many 26-year-old guards who have averaged better than 24 points per game in each of the last two years.  The Warriors have one of them in Monta Ellis. 

That's why, living in the Bay Area, the never-ending stream of "trade Ellis" talk is a little confusing. 

John Krolik of Pro Basketball Talk analyzed one of those rumors, which came from ESPN's Ric Bucher.  That trade would have the Warriors sending Ellis and an asset to Memphis for Rudy Gay. 

This is what Krolik had to say:  

"If the 'asset' the Warriors are willing to throw in is something like a first-round pick, or Memphis truly thinks it is in dire straights financially, this could happen, but from a pure basketball perspective, this would make very little sense for the Grizzlies."

Really?  Ellis and a first-round draft pick for Gay wouldn't make sense from a pure basketball perspective?  On the court, Gay is a more complete player than Ellis.

Still, Ellis' style of play meshes well with what the Warriors do.  Never underestimate that.
