NBA Rumors: Suns Would Be Brilliant to Replace Steve Nash with Deron Williams

It's been a growing possibility for years that Steve Nash could be done in Phoenix after the 2011-12 season, and the Suns would hit a home run if they were to land Brooklyn Nets' star point guard Deron Williams for next season and beyond.

Mitch Lawrence of New York Daily News said Saturday that if Steve Nash were to bolt from Phoenix, that they would be making a big push to bring in Williams, who's easily one of the league's top point guards.

“If they lose Steve, then they plan to go after Deron, hard,” said a person with knowledge of the Suns’ plans to New York Daily News. “They know he loves golf and they’re going to try to sell him on going out there.”

You know he loves golf? That usually bodes well for past basketball players. 

It's no secret that Phoenix wants to avoid parting ways with Nash, and they might go way out of their way to ensure that the franchise's best player in history goes out a Sun. But basketball is a business, and if the 38-year-old wants top dollar, they should be more interested in a younger player who's still in his prime (like Williams).
