NBA Rumors: Allen Iverson to Sign with Turkish Team Besiktas

Yahoo! Sports has reported that Allen Iverson is close to signing a one-year contract, worth up to $2 million, with the Turkish team Besiktas.

After seemingly holding out for an NBA offer, AI has apparently seen the writing on the wall and decided to assess his other options.

Previously he had been contacted by a number of Chinese basketball squads, however, he is allegedly fascinated by the potential to play in Istanbul.

Nevertheless, to a basketball fan, the idea of Iverson in Turkey just seems strange.

Furthermore, it's odd that the only reason as to why he has not yet signed with Besiktas is because he is insisting on a contract clause, stating that the team will not be able to fine him more than one percent of his total salary.

Consequently, it seems that the only possible reason AI is going to play in Turkey is because of the money, especially following his recent string of personal problems (a sick daughter, a divorce, and gambling and drinking issues).

However, due to all that Iverson has done for the NBA, one can only wish him the best.
