NBA Free Agents 2012: Chances Celtics Sign Ray Allen and Other Free Agents

With the 2012 NBA draft complete and free agency underway, franchises are trying to pry open a window for success. The Boston Celtics, on the other hand, are just trying to keep it from closing.

Before negotiations started on July 1, only Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley and JaJuan Johnson were under salaried contracts for next season, per ESPN Boston's Chris Forsberg.

In order to keep the Big 3 in tact and set the blueprint for next year, general manager Danny Ainge has to beat the odds by inking top available players to contracts.

Right out of the gate, the Celtics silenced critics by agreeing to a three-year, roughly $34 million contract with Kevin Garnett, according to Frank Dell'Apa of the Boston Globe. The 36-year-old is a key cog in the Celts' hopes of drawing more talent to the TD Garden. Who will be following suit?

With the first piece to the puzzle in place, here is the likelihood that Ray Allen and other notables on the open market will join the hunt for banner No. 18.
