The NBA free agency period begins in just hours, and things just got a whole lot more interesting.
You can add another high-profile name to an already star-studded list if free agents—Paul Pierce.
Pierce’s agent, Jeff Schwartz, has told ESPN.com that the All-Star and face of the Celtics franchise will opt-out of the last year of his contract. In doing so, Pierce will have to down the guaranteed $21.5 million he would receive from the Celtics next season.
However, he’ll become an unrestricted free agent and will be able to potentially sign a four-year deal worth a maximum $96 million from Boston and $93 million if he signs somewhere else.
It’s highly unlikely that he would get anything longer than a four-year deal because he would be 37 when the fifth year begins. ...
