NBA Free Agency: Boston Celtics Sign Veteran Von Wafer To One-Year Deal

The Boston Celtics added some much needed depth to their bench as they signed veteran guard Von Wafer to a one-year contract, for the veteran minimum.

Wafer started last season with the Greek team Olympiakos and was waived and spent time with Dallas Mavericks.

The Wafer signing comes to somewhat of a surprise as the team considered Eddie House, who signed with the Heat today, and free agents Roger Mason and Jarvis Hayes.  The Celtics have been looking for more bench players after guard Tony Allen departed for Memphis.

The Celtics ultimately chose Wafer as he can provide a scoring punch like he did in 2008 when he averaged nearly 10 points a game and 19 minutes per game when he played for the Rockets.  Wafer also shot 40 percent from the three point line, something they could have used in the playoffs.

I like the Wafer signing as he is a lot like Nate Robinson in this case, he's small, fast, and can knock some clutch shots down for you down the stretch.
