When a team manages to acquire the first overall pick in a draft, it's generally hailed as the start of a new era in what may have been a struggling franchise.
At the very least, the number 1 pick is expected to become the cornerstone of the franchise. Generally, he is also expected to blossom into a superstar of the league. While this does occasionally happen (see the man in the picture), for various reasons, this simply does not happen every year.
