NBA: Could Dirk Nowitzki Be Done in Dallas?

The entire NBA community has been under the impression Dirk Nowitzki is going to stay in Dallas after this season.

Reports, however, are saying something different.

Nowitzki left the impression on the NBA community this season that he would be staying with Dallas instead of opting out of the $21.5 million he is owed next season by the Mavericks.

Free agency can be risky, so a guaranteed $21.5 million seemed to not be worth the risk for Nowitzki. Not to mention the Dallas front office had shown it was committed to winning by trading for Caron Butler, Brendan Haywood, and DeShawn Stevenson, setting up the Mavericks for what seemed like a long playoff run.

That was until, once again, the Mavericks fell prematurely in the first round of the playoffs to the San Antonio Spurs.

"I wanted to obviously have a long playoff run and go for my dream again," Nowitzki said.

"Now it's obviously too shocking and too disappointing. I haven't really thought about anything about my future yet. I guess I've got some time now to think about some stuff and think about my options."

Options?
