Mustapha Farrakhan, Michael Cobbins to Thunder: Contract Details and Reaction

The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Thursday that they signed forward Michael Cobbins and guard Mustapha Farrakhan Jr., grandson of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.

They did not disclose the contract details.

Robbins is an undrafted rookie who played three games for the Thunder’s summer-league team after three seasons with the nearby Oklahoma State Cowboys. In college, Robbins started 60 of 70 games at OSU, averaging 6.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 25.4 minutes per game.

Farrakhan, 28, has played for various NBA Development League teams and in Australia since going unselected in the 2011 NBA draft following four years with the Virginia Cavaliers.

The Thunder’s roster count is now at 17, which means both signees could be headed to the team’s D-League affiliate, the Oklahoma City Blue. Three players on the current NBA roster—Josh Huestis, Mitch McGary, Andre Roberson—have played in the team's farm system, which could give the new signees optimism.
