Meyers Leonard Re-Signs with Trail Blazers: Latest Contract Details, Reaction

Portland Trail Blazers big man Meyers Leonard was one of the better, younger players who still had a chance to go to another team on the open market, but his incumbent squad made sure he stayed put on Sunday.

Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reported Portland and Leonard, a restricted free agent, agreed to terms on a four-year, $41 million contract. Leonard's agent, Aaron Mintz, confirmed the deal, per CSNNW.com's Jason Quick.  

Leonard is a legitimate 7-footer who has unusual offensive finesse to his game, evident in his 37.7 percent shooting clip from beyond the arc this past season on 228 total attempts.

The 24-year-old's size and athleticism also make him a versatile defender and a strong post presence who can help the Blazers improve upon allowing 104.3 points per contest last season, 20th in the league.

Leonard posted career-best totals in 2015-16 in averaging 21.9 minutes, 8.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Unfortunately, a left-shoulder injury that required surgery cut Leonard's season short, as he appeared in 61 games.
