Marcus Smart Injury: Updates on Celtics Star’s Toe and Return

After missing 15 games during his rookie season, Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart is on the shelf once again, this time with a left toe injury, per A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com.

Isaiah Thomas to Assume Smart's Place in Starting Five Wednesday, Nov. 4 Before the Celtics' game against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday, Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald spotted Smart in a walking boot in the team's locker room, while the team announced Isaiah Thomas would take Smart's place in the lineup. 

The Celtics made Smart the sixth overall pick in 2014, though he did struggle with consistency. His season got off to a rough start, as he missed 10 games in November and December with a sprained ankle, and an Achilles injury almost immediately followed.   

During summer league, Smart dislocated two fingers, so there does become a point where it's understandable to ask if he's going to be susceptible to injuries. At 21 years old, it may not be time to ask that yet, but it could be getting close if he has another extended absence.
