Marcus Smart Injury: Updates on Celtics Star’s Ankle and Return

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart suffered an ankle injury during Wednesday night's preseason game against the New York Knicks. It's unclear when he'll return to the court.

Latest on Smart's Timeline for Return Friday, Oct. 21 Shams Charania of The Vertical reported Smart's MRI came back clean, and Boston will judge his return based on the ankle's response to treatment. 

On Wednesday, A. Sherrod Blakely of CSNNE.com reported Smart will likely miss two weeks with the injury.

Smart's injury occurred when he stepped on Knicks guard Justin Holiday's foot and rolled his ankle during the second quarter of Wednesday night's game, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.

Yahoo Sports' Chris Mannix noted that Smart had to be helped off the floor and that the injury "looked pretty bad." The Celtics announced Smart suffered a sprained left ankle and wouldn't return to the game.
