Manu Ginobili Opts out of Spurs Contract: Latest Details, Comments and Reaction

San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili isn't quite ready to call it a career yet and will at least test the free-agent market, as he reportedly has opted out of the last year of his contract. 

ESPN's Marc Stein first reported Ginobili was expected to opt out of his deal before The Vertical's Shams Charania, citing sources, reported that Ginobili exercised his player option to get out of a deal that would've paid him approximately $2.94 million this coming year, per Spotrac.

Ginobili logged a career-low 19.6 minutes per game this past season in 58 contests, but he was proficient with his limited time. The 38-year-old posted averages of 9.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals while shooting 45.3 percent from the floor and 39.1 percent from three point range.

Although this move may come as something of a surprise, it's possible Ginobili will indeed return for a 15th and perhaps final season with the Spurs. The rise in the NBA salary cap gives Ginobili room to demand more money in what should be his swan song in 2016-17.
