The Dallas Mavericks captured a 110-97 victory on Tuesday night, handing the Los Angeles Lakers their second consecutive loss. The Lakers have now lost eight of their last nine dating back to Dec. 21.
Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavericks on a night when they nearly led wire-to-wire, scoring a game-high 27 points on 12-of-20 shooting in 31 minutes.
The real story, though, was the Mavericks' even scoring distribution and the ease with which they scored the ball against a porous Lakers defense.
Five Dallas players finished in double figures, with Vince Carter pouring in 19 points off the bench (7-of-12 shooting) while Monta Ellis and Jose Calderon added 16 and 12 points, respectively.
DeJuan Blair scored 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting on a night when the Mavs shot 53 percent from the field.
In addition, Dallas scored 58 of their points in the paint and dropped in 25 points off of 20 Lakers turnovers.
Shawn Marion scored eight points and did not play in the second half after suffering a right shoulder contusion in the second quarter.
