It's easy to be popular on the Internet for a few minutes, but according to the 2013 Google Trends list, LeBron James and the Miami Heat managed to capture the attention of the web for an entire year.
Per Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, James and the Heat were the subject of more individual and team searches than anybody else this past year. I guess winning two straight championships generated some interest in Miami.
It's funny how that works.
James' crown as the most searched NBA athlete is also unsurprising. He's an international superstar who has made himself an increasingly visible presence in commercials. It probably doesn't hurt that he collected his fourth MVP and generated innumerable search-worthy highlights last season.
According to Royce Young of CBSSports.com, the top 10 lists for 2013's trending players looks like this:
1. LeBron James
2. Jeremy Lin
3. Michael Jordan
4. Kobe Bryant
5. Dwight Howard
6. Derrick Rose
7. Kevin Durant
8. Blake Griffin
9. Ray Allen
10. Steve Nash
