LeBron James and the Whole Race Thing: Forgive and Forget

Before you read any further, be aware that the purpose of this article is not to throw additional dirt on Lebron James’ name. It goes much deeper than that.

As a white male basketball fan, I am appalled at the continued amount of attention people are giving racism in the realm of sports. Sometimes it warrants our attention and needs to be addressed. Such was the case when a mural of the Sacramento Kings’ Israeli born Omri Casspi was defaced with a swastika twice. Other times, there is no place for it. Absolutely none. Such is the case with the recent goings-on of Lebron James. I have read countless articles bashing James and his agent Maverick Carter for the ridiculousness of their statements. That’s fine. Everyone has their opinion on James and how he has handled the “decision” and the backlash that has ensued. Frankly, the constant putdowns skimming through the various articles have gotten old in a hurry. The bottom line remains; James brought race into a spectrum where it wasn’t needed, and we have to deal with that. How we choose to deal with it is what defines our character.
