LA Lakers To Re-sign Shannon Brown, Tracy McGrady No Longer an Option

With veteran guard Raja Bell spurning the Lakers to play for the Utah Jazz, the Lakers have decided to extend a multi-year contract offer to guard Shannon Brown using the remaining portion of the MLE.

Shannon Brown's agent Mark Bartelstein indicated that the guard will likely accept the Lakers' offer after receiving unappealing offers from other teams, including Utah and Indiana.

Brown quickly became a fan favorite in Los Angeles with his high-flying dunks and hustle after the Lakers acquired him from the Charlotte Bobcats in the middle of the 2009 season. He averaged 8.1 points and 2.2 rebounds this season in a little over 20 minutes a game.

With Brown on board, the Lakers seem set with their guard rotation for the 2010-2011 NBA season, and will not contact veteran guard Tracy McGrady.

The Lakers' front office became irritated after reports surfaced that the former All-Star was willing to sign for the veteran's minimum with the Miami Heat.

The Los Angeles Lakers will now turn their attention to signing a backup center from the likes of Kurt Thomas, Joe Smith, or Theo Ratliff. The Lakers also have interest in former Utah ...
