Kobe Bryant Claims European Players Are Better Than American Ones, Blames AAU

Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant has never been afraid of speaking his mind, and he's recently taken a strong stance on the current state of American basketball.

The 36-year-old spoke with Arash Markazi from ESPN.com after Friday night's loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, claiming that European basketball players are better than American ones.

"I just think European players are just way more skillful," Kobe told Markazi. "They are just taught the game the right way at an early age. ... They're more skillful. It's something we really have to fix. We really have to address that. We have to teach our kids to play the right way."

One of the reasons Kobe believes European players are surpassing domestic ones? AAU basketball.  

He was not shy about ripping the way it develops young talent, saying:

AAU basketball. Horrible, terrible AAU basketball. It's stupid. It doesn't teach our kids how to play the game at all so you wind up having players that are big and they bring it up and they do all this fancy crap and they don't know how to post. They don't know the fundamentals of the game. It's stupid.
