Knicks Rumors: Why Point Guard Will Bynum Would Be Perfect Signing for New York

Following the retirement of Jason Kidd, the New York Knicks will be in the market for a new backup point guard this offseason.

According to Vincent Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, free agent Will Bynum has been drawing interest from both the Knicks and the Los Angeles Lakers:



Bynum has emerged as a quality backup point guard over his last few years with the Detroit Pistons. He would be a perfect fit for New York, giving the Knicks exactly what they need out of the position.

What New York really lacked last season was energy and penetration at the point, with Kidd and Pablo Prigioni unable to provide that at their age. Felton was perfect for the role, but without a suitable backup, the Knicks missed out whenever he was injured or off the floor.

"The Thrill," as he was known in Detroit, is very similar to Felton, as he's a player who lives off penetration and collapsing the defense. His ability to get inside allows him to create for bigs, which he did plenty of times for Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond last season.
