Joel Embiid Injury: Updates on 76ers Star’s Elbow and Return

The Philadelphia 76ers announced Saturday that center Joel Embiid will miss Sunday's game against the Detroit Pistons as a result of right elbow inflammation.

Brown Comments on Injury Saturday, Dec. 10  The Sixers also tweeted Embiid did not practice with the team Saturday. Tom Moore of Calkins Media speculated the rookie big man hurt his elbow in Philadelphia's 99-88 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday.

"I think it's far more precautionary," head coach Brett Brown said, per Moore.

Embiid's injury history is well-known to basketball fans. After the Sixers selected him third overall in the 2014 draft, he missed his first two years in the league entirely. Every time the former Kansas Jayhawks star seemed close to making his NBA debut, he suffered another setback, such as his foot surgery in August 2015 that wiped out any chance of his playing in 2015-16.
