Charlotte Hornets guard Jeremy Lamb suffered a sprained right ankle in the first quarter of Monday's preseason game against the Chicago Bulls.

Continue for updates.

Lamb Doubtful to Return with Ankle Sprain Monday, Oct. 19 The Hornets' official PR Twitter feed announced the sprained-ankle diagnosis and return status for Lamb, who has averaged just 15.7 minutes per contest in his first three NBA seasons but is important for depth purposes.

Nicolas Batum was Charlotte's most notable offseason acquisition and can do a little bit of everything on the wing. That takes pressure off the 23-year-old Lamb and won't put him in too big of a role. The Hornets can also turn to a younger option in 22-year-old P.J. Hairston at the 2-guard spot for the time being.

Lamb was the 12th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft and hasn't really lived up to that billing. The hope is he can be healthy in time for the 2015-16 regular season and begin realizing his potential for a team already without Michael Kidd-Gilchrist for an extended period because of a shoulder surgery.
