Houston Rockets star James Harden missed his second straight game on Monday, Dec. 23, against the Dallas Mavericks due to a high-ankle sprain.
It was the sixth game of the season that the shooting guard has missed. The Rockets fell to 18-11 overall and 4-2 without Harden after the 111-104 loss to Dallas.
According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, Harden has been dealing with the lingering injury since Dec. 15, when he suffered it in a blowout loss to the Sacramento Kings.
Harden explained his current predicament to Feigen after the game, noting that he is eyeing a Christmas Day return:
The swelling went down. It’s still there but it’s improving. We will re-evaluate and I will try to do some work on it (on Tuesday) and go from there. I will keep icing it and getting treatment and hopefully be ready for Christmas Day.
Jenny Dial Creech of the Houston Chronicle added this:
“I wasn’t really in any pain so we will see how it feels tomorrow,” Harden said, stating that he would be a game-time decision. He did say his ankle seems to be improving.
