Shooting guard JaKarr Sampson agreed to a contract with the Denver Nuggets on Monday, the team confirmed.
Shams Charania of The Vertical first reported on the deal between the two sides, noting that it's a two-year contract.
Sampson, 22, appeared in 47 games (18 starts) for the Philadelphia 76ers this season, averaging 5.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per contest. The Sixers waived him last week to make room for Joel Anthony, who was acquired in a three-team trade with the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons.
The Sixers were expected to waive Anthony before trying to re-sign Sampson, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, but the Sixers, Pistons and Rockets agreed to an extension to finalize the trade, delaying Anthony's potential release.
That gave the Nuggets the opportunity to strike a deal with Sampson after he cleared waivers—and before Philly had the roster space to re-sign him—something that some folks in the Sixers organization may ultimately regret.
