J.J. Barea Injury: Updates on Mavericks PG’s Ankle and Return

Dallas Mavericks point guard J.J. Barea left Wednesday's 88-83 loss to the San Antonio Spurs with an ankle injury and did not return.

Barea Suffers Sprained Right Ankle Wednesday, Nov. 25 The Mavericks' official Twitter account provided the update on Barea after the sprain forced him out of the game in the fourth quarter.

Barea scored seven points and dished out three assists in only 13 minutes of action versus San Antonio. He is a capable backup who provides an offensive spark and has a place in the heart of Dallas fans for his key contribution to the team's run to the 2011 NBA title.

Although the unique type of energy Barea brings to the floor can't be replicated by anyone in the Mavs' backcourt rotation, they have plenty of depth therein.  

Deron Williams and Raymond Felton are both capable ball-handlers who have actually started alongside each other at times this season. Devin Harris also comes off the bench to provide Dallas with another savvy veteran who can run the point.
