Is the End Near for the Celtics? Boston’s 2010 Offseason Outlook

The 2008 NBA Champion Boston Celtics will have an active off-season ahead of them.

Their top two players, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, are going to be in the 2010 free agency frenzy along with Tony Allen and Nate Robinson if he chooses to opt out of his contract. That is a total of four key players they could potentially lose in the free agency period.

In addition, Boston's head coach, Doc Rivers' decision to leave the Celtics or return for a seventh season is still pending. Rivers has led Boston to one NBA championship in two NBA Finals appearances not to mention a 280-212 regular season record. That would obviously be a huge blow to the Celtics' elite status, as they would lose one of the best coaches in the NBA.

Along with the obstacles listed above, Doc Rivers believes that Rasheed Wallace, 35 and a key player in the 2010 NBA Finals, will retire. Wallace still has two years remaining on his current contract. If the Celtics lose Wallace, they will lose a key role player that can still step up in clutch situations when called upon.
