Houston Rockets Sign Erick Dampier: Analysis and Team Impact

The Houston Rockets reportedly signed veteran big man Erick Dampier to a one-year contract on Friday.  This low-risk pick-up will provide the Rockets with more size and options in the front line and allow head coach Rick Adelman to start a 7-footer on nights in which Yao cannot play (on the second half of back-to-backs).  The move will also keep Brad Miller's role with the team consistent, as the first big man off the bench.

The Rockets will need Dampier's presence on the defensive end to protect the rim from the layup parade caused by the starting back court's lack of defense.  Rockets fans will be happy to avoid watching another game with Chuck Hayes starting at center.

What will this mean for the rotation?  Who will lose their spot on the roster?

Fans should not read too much into Miller's lack of playing time against the Golden State Warriors, as he likely would have had trouble keeping up with the pace of the game.  Miller's spot in the rotation is very much safe.
