Heat Sign Jerry Stackhouse, Release Patrick Beverley and Da’Sean Butler

After signing Jerry Stackhouse over the weekend in lieu of Mike Miller‘s hand injury, the Heat have decided to release team hopefulls Da’Sean Butler and Patrick Beverley Monday morning.

The news was reported by Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, via his twitter account late Monday morning.

Butler was a second-round pick by Miami out of West Virginia. He is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered in last year’s NCAA Tournament. Beverley played overseas last season.

The Miller injury certainly had a big impact on the final two cuts.

They had to sign a wing player who could contribute immediately, and Stackhouse is that guy. He should be productive with the amount of talent around him. Although he isn’t in the same league as Miller as a spot-up shooter (career 28.9 percent three-point shooter). He will contribute as a mid-range shooter with a high basketball I.Q.

What frustrates myself, and I’m sure many others, is the decision to keep veteran center Jamaal Magloire on the roster over two young talented players with upside.
