Hassan Whiteside Re-Signs with Heat: Latest Contract Details, Comments, Reaction

Following a breakout 2015-16 season, free-agent center Hassan Whiteside cashed in with the Miami Heat.

He announced the news Friday on Snapchat, as Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald tweeted:



According to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, Whiteside inked a four-year max deal. Reynolds also provided a breakdown of Whiteside's huge uptick in salary:



However, Ethan J. Sklonick of the Miami Herald noted "it's not necessarily" a full max deal, as Whiteside "agreed to some wiggle room if [Kevin] Durant wants to come."

Dwyane Wade later congratulated Whiteside on his new contract:



The 27-year-old big man put up impressive numbers in his second campaign with the Heat last season, averaging 14.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and an NBA-best 3.7 blocks per game. Whiteside built on a 2014-15 season that saw him average 11.8 points, 10 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per contest in 48 appearances.
