Hassan Whiteside Injury: Updates on Heat Center’s Ankle and Return

An uneven season for the Miami Heat may have gotten a bit rockier on Tuesday night, as center Hassan Whiteside had to leave the team's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder with an ankle injury and didn't return.

The injury will likely keep him sidelined for at least one other game, per the team's official Twitter account:

Whiteside has been a pleasant surprise for the Heat this year, averaging 7.2 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks in 15.8 minutes per game. The 25-year-old has really picked it up in January, averaging 12.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per contest.

The Heat will certainly be hoping this injury doesn't keep him out of action for too long as they try to get their record (18-23) above .500 for the first time since early December.

In the post-LeBron James era, they need all the help they can get, and a healthy Whiteside has become a big part of their rotation.
