Harrison Barnes Injury: Updates on Warriors Forward’s Foot, Likely Return Date

Golden State Warriors small forward Harrison Barnes will miss the first two games of the 2013-14 NBA season due to persistent inflammation in his left foot that has kept him out for three prior weeks.

Kurt Helin of ProBasketballTalk.com reported the specifics of the injury on Tuesday. Head coach Mark Jackson noted that Barnes will come off the bench when he does return, per the Bay Area News Group's Marcus Thompson:

— Marcus Thompson (@gswscribe) October 29, 2013 Barnes was the seventh overall pick in the 2012 draft out of North Carolina, and after starting 81 games as a rookie and being a solid role player, he came on strong in the playoffs, putting up over 16 points per game.

The 21-year-old will be relegated to bench duty, though, as the starting five is projected to include guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, and big men David Lee and Andrew Bogut. Prized trade acquisition Andre Iguodala will take Barnes' place at the 3.
