Houston Rockets guard James Harden had 33 points, 17 rebounds and 14 assists in Wednesday's 123-113 loss to the Detroit Pistons, becoming the first player since Wilt Chamberlain in 1968 to hit all of those statistical marks in the same game, per NBA.com/Stats.
As impressive as his performance was, Harden still fell quite a bit short of Chamberlain's historic 53-32-14 stat line from March 18, 1968, against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Of course, the 26-year-old guard can hardly be blamed for his team's losing effort, as he made nine of his 22 field-goal attempts, three of his seven three-point attempts and all 12 of his free throws, albeit with just one steal, no blocks and a game-high six turnovers.
With star center Dwight Howard exiting the game with an injury early in the first quarter, Harden had to take on an even bigger role than usual and nearly willed his team to victory.
However, it is worth noting that the Rockets got some extra possessions—in turn helping Harden's stat line—by intentionally fouling Pistons center Andre Drummond, who set an NBA record with 23 missed free throws.
