In the teams' first game of the 2014 FIBA World Cup, Brazil defeated France 65-63 in the group phase.

It was a closely contested bout, but once the Brazilians pulled in front just before halftime, they were in control through most of the way.

For Brazil, the main standout was a player NBA fans may not have originally recognized. Point guard Marcelinho Huertas led the way with 16 points and five assists, nailing two three-pointers and flinging dimes in every which direction to open teammates. More familiar names like Tiago Splitter (six points), Nene (five points) and Anderson Varejao (eight points) all played a role in the victory as well.

Boris Diaw played exceptionally for France, leading the squad in points, rebounds and assists with a line of 15, six boards and five assists. Nicolas Batum contributed 13, while Thomas Heurtel and Antoine Diot combined for 15.

Brazil's next game in Group A will come against Iran on Sunday, while France takes on Serbia in pursuit of their first Cup victory.
