Chicago Bulls guard Dwyane Wade has issued an apology for making a throat-slashing gesture late in the fourth quarter of Thursday's game against the Boston Celtics.

Wade tweeted out his apology:

Soon after the NBA announced a $25,000 fine for Wade, per Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders:

Wade made the gesture after sealing a 105-99 victory with less than 30 seconds remaining when he nailed a three-pointer that put the Bulls up by five.

Per ESPN.com's Nick Friedell, Wade said after the game on Thursday night he "had an out-of-body experience" when he made the gesture.

Friedell noted the league hit Kevin Durant with an identical fine in 2013 after he made a similar gesture during an Oklahoma City Thunder game against the Golden State Warriors.

Thursday marked Wade's debut with the Bulls after 13 seasons with the Miami Heat. It was also a homecoming of sorts for the Chicago native, who tallied 22 points, six rebounds, five assists and one block in the Bulls' home opener.
