Dwight Howard Injury: Updates on Rockets Star’s Ankle and Return

Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard left the team's game against the Detroit Pistons Wednesday because of an ankle injury.

Howard Ruled Out for Remainder of Game Wednesday, Jan. 20 Howard started the contest but only played one minute and notched two rebounds before exiting. Calvin Watkins of ESPN.com confirmed the big man would not return because of an ankle sprain.

Howard has seen his role in the Rockets offense continue to decrease this season with the team using a more balanced approach behind James Harden. That said, he's still an important piece because of his impact as a rebounder and shot-blocker while functioning as a secondary scorer.

The good news is that he's been able to stay mostly healthy after suffering through an injury-plagued 2014-15 campaign that featured lingering knee problems. He dealt with a back issue during the preseason but has stayed on the court since then aside from some games off in back-to-back sets.
