Doc Rivers’ Denial of Celtics Trade Rumors Doesn’t Mean Deal Won’t Happen

Doc Rivers is the sheriff of the Boston Celtics when they’re on the court.

But when it comes to the NBA’s trade deadline, he isn’t the law of the land.

No, Danny Ainge is the architect of this Celtics team, and he’ll have the final say at the end of the day. Although Kevin Garnett has some say, too, as he is one of the few players in the league with a no-trade clause in their contract.

Rivers, though, recently rebuked current trade rumors surrounding some of his key players; including the veteran power forward. In a report by ESPN’s Greg Payne, Rivers said the following:

"All from [the media]. None from us. Really. I would like to say that. Sometimes I like [the media], sometimes, some of the stuff that happens is just silly. It really is. When I wake up in the morning and I hear a trade rumor that I haven't heard in my office, that's silly, and that's what happens."

A coach denying that some impending changes are in the works isn’t anything new, but Rivers was particularly adamant in his rebuttal.

He also denied having dinner with Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Chauncey Billu ...
