Sacramento Kings forward Derrick Williams will sit out of Tuesday night's game against the Chicago Bulls due to a sprained right ankle suffered during pregame warm-ups.
Jason Jones of The Sacramento Bee noted Williams was injured after tripping:
The Kings did not divulge the severity of Williams' sprain. They play again Wednesday night in Milwaukee, so it's possible they are expressing caution while on a back-to-back. It's also possible Williams sits out through the All-Star break to give him extra time to heal.
Williams, 23, is averaging 6.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. The former No. 2 overall pick is in his second season in Sacramento after a failed three-year stint with the Minnesota Timberwolves. After Sacramento acquired Williams on a buy-low deal with hopes of unearthing his potential, the experiment has largely gone bust.
Williams has struggled to be much more than a secondary big man and has seen his playing time wildly vary from night to night. Interim coach Tyrone Corbin has sat him twice on a coach's decision since Jan. 31.
