With DeMarcus Cousins about to finish another successful season, at least statistically, with the Sacramento Kings, his status for Team USA heading into the Rio Olympics is not as certain as it once appeared thanks to a foot injury that will require surgery.
Speaking to James Ham of CSN Bay Area after the Kings' win over the Phoenix Suns on Friday, Cousins sounded cautiously optimistic about representing the United States: “I have been preparing. I have some decisions to make before the end of the season. I’ve got to get some procedures done on my body—on my feet, we’ll see.”
The two-time All-Star has battled lower leg problems in the past, being shut down for the final six games last season due to ankle issues and a calf strain.
Per Ham's report, Cousins said he's had tendinitis in his feet this season: “That’s why you see me walking up and down funny. Hopefully this procedure goes well and I can start preparing for Team USA.”
