DeMar DeRozan: Latest News, Rumors, Speculation on Raptors Star’s Future

The Brooklyn Nets will have nearly $40 million of salary-cap space in the offseason, and they could use some of it to make an offer to Toronto Raptors star DeMar DeRozan, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post.

DeRozan Likely to Opt Out of Contract Friday, Jan. 8 Lewis reported a source close to the Post told the publication that DeRozan plans to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract at the end of the year.

"I can tell you he’ll opt out. But how he feels about Brooklyn—or anybody else—I can’t say. Only he can answer that,’’ the source said, adding that DeRozan feels the Raptors have treated him well. DeRozan “has a trait that’s been lost by so many players," the source noted. "It's called loyalty."

As Lewis reported, opting out doesn't guarantee he would leave Toronto, but DeRozan would want more than the projected $9.5 million he's set to receive in 2016-17.
