David Lee Injury: Updates on Celtics Star’s Back and Return

David Lee has struggled to find playing time in a crowded Boston Celtics frontcourt. Now, the 32-year-old power forward will be out of action altogether as the Celtics get set to take on the Detroit Pistons.

Lee Out with Sore Lower Back Saturday, Dec. 26 The Celtics' official Twitter account passed along the update shortly before tipoff. 

Last year, the combination of injuries and Draymond Green's emergence resulted in Lee's worst season since his rookie year. In 49 regular-season games, he averaged 7.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest. He remained effective when he was on the court, but he wasn't one of the Golden State Warriors' key players as they captured the NBA title.

A change of scenery was necessary for the two-time All-Star, but he joined a team that already had Jared Sullinger, Tyler Zeller, Jonas Jerebko and Kelly Olynyk before signing Amir Johnson in the offseason.

As a result, Lee is running into similar issues. Through 27 games, he is scoring 7.4 points while grabbing 4.4 boards per contest.
