Dahntay Jones Waived by Cavaliers: Details, Comments and Reaction

The Cleveland Cavaliers released veteran forward Dahntay Jones on Saturday, ESPN's Marc Stein reported. 

The 35-year-old spent just one year with the Cavaliers—the eighth team of his career—appearing in one regular-season game and 15 postseason contests.  

Cleveland had to make a decision on what to do with Jones before Monday. According to Sam Amico of AmicoHoops.net, had the Cavaliers kept the veteran on the roster on August 1, his $1.5 million salary would have been guaranteed for the 2016-17 season.

Stein noted Jones could return to Cleveland after clearing waivers. 

Jones has been a reserve for most of his career, starting more than 26 games just once in a single season.

During his 12 years in the league, he has averaged 5.4 points in 15.7 minutes per game.

After 33 games with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014-15, Jones spent most of the 2015-16 season with the Grand Rapids Drive of the NBA Development League.
