Chauncey Billups Should Give The New Jersey Nets A Chance

Chauncey Billups has thrown a wrench into a potential blockbuster trade that would finally send Carmelo Anthony to the New Jersey Nets.

The 34-year-old guard is rumored to be headed to the Nets in a deal that would have him playing with some familiar faces. Billups is supposed to head to New Jersey along with Anthony. He's also set to be reunited with Richard Hamilton, his back court partner from the Detroit Pistons.

You would figure that a scenario like that would be enticing to Billups, but it's not.

Reports have surfaced that Billups is absolutely against the idea. The belief is that the Denver native does not want to leave his home town. He's expected to ask for a buyout from the Nets if the trade were to go through.

Billups, a former star player at the University of Colorado, has a fondness for his hometown but did not make a commitment for a return there.

The third overall pick of the 1997 NBA Draft stated that he would field offers from various teams (presumably championship contenders) and go from there. Billups already has an NBA championship ring and an NBA Finals MVP award, but he does not want to finish his car ...
