The Cleveland Cavaliers excused Channing Frye from the team indefinitely after his mother died Thursday.

According to ESPN.com's Dave McMenamin, Karen Mulzac-Frye died of cancer. Cleveland.com's Joe Vardon confirmed the news.

"The entire Cavs organization expresses their deepest sympathies to Channing and his family during this very difficult time," the team said in a statement.

The Cavaliers are scheduled to play back-to-back games Friday and Saturday following their season-opening win over the New York Knicks.

A meeting with the Toronto Raptors is scheduled for Friday night at Air Canada Centre, and the Orlando Magic will travel to Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday evening. The Cavaliers confirmed Frye will miss both games.

Following this weekend's contests, Cleveland will have two days off before the Houston Rockets come to town on Tuesday.
